How StrengthSense works
What it is
StrengthSense is an auto-tracked strength-training tool built around how a personal trainer actually operates: one trainer, a roster of clients, and a program tailored to each. Reps are counted automatically as a set happens — by a real motion sensor when one's clipped to the bar, or a realistic simulation when it's not — so a trainer never has to tally a set by hand. Building a program is just as fast: paste in a trainer's usual workout notes, and StrengthSense converts them into a structured, trackable program within seconds. Each client then follows their program without downloading an app, creating an account, or remembering a password.
How training gets tracked
- Reps count themselves. Strength workout sets can be tracked by a real motion sensor clipped to the barbell sleeve, so rep counts reflect the bar's actual movement rather than a stopwatch or a manual tally. An optional calibration step fine-tunes floor-contact detection, though it's never required to start training.
- Everything else still runs smoothly. When a sensor isn't connected, or for lifts it doesn't yet cover, StrengthSense falls back to a realistic timed simulation, so a program always runs end to end.
- Programs stay editable. Reps, weight, and sets can be adjusted at any point without restarting the program.
- Every session is logged automatically. What actually happened in a set is recorded, not just what was planned, giving trainers a reliable record to review later.
Who uses it
The trainer. The coach — responsible for planning workouts and managing clients. Each trainer signs into a private account and sees only their own roster; how one trainer runs their business stays invisible to every other trainer.
The client. The person doing the workouts. Clients never create an account. Their trainer sends a single private link that opens directly to their assigned program, with nothing to install and nothing to remember. It works the same way every time, on any device, whenever they train.
How a trainer uses it
- Get set up. Trainer accounts are created individually — there's no public sign-up page, so every trainer on StrengthSense has been personally onboarded.
- Add a client. The trainer adds a client by name, and StrengthSense generates that client's private link immediately.
- Share the link. The trainer sends it through whatever channel is most convenient — text, email, or otherwise. That link is the client's entire account; there's no form to fill out and no password to set.
- Build the program. The trainer pastes in their usual workout notes, and StrengthSense converts them into a structured, day-by-day program automatically.
- Assign and track. The program is saved under the client it was built for, so the trainer can return anytime to review what's been assigned and how it's progressing.
How a client uses it
- Open the link their trainer sent. No sign-up and no password required.
- View their program. The assigned workouts are there immediately.
- Train. They work through it set by set, the same way each session.
If a link is ever lost or shared with the wrong person, the trainer can generate a new one at any time — the previous link stops working immediately, on every device it was being used.
Why it's built this way
- Trainers have full accounts because they're managing a business's worth of client relationships, and that data warrants real protection.
- Clients access their programs via a link rather than a login, since the person doing the workout shouldn't need a password just to see today's sets — fewer steps between a trainer assigning a program and a client starting it.
- Each trainer's roster stays private. No trainer can see another trainer's clients or programs.
